If you’re a golf fan you know that the TaylorMade Spider putter has taken over. DJ uses it. Day uses it. Brian Harmon almost overcame the longest course in major championship history with a version of it (Harmon uses the 2.0 which is about as big as a tarantula). So when Rory announced he was going to switch to the Spider I thought he was about to have a great second half of the golf season. Turns out I was wrong. After a MC at Erin Hills, where his putter wasn’t really his biggest issue tbh, he made the trip to Cromwell, CT for his first appearance in the Travelers Championship which is susceptible to low scores (Throwback to Mr. 58 Jim Furyk). He’d get it back on track right? He’s a dominate force when he gets the best swing on tour rolling and he hasn’t even been working out that much!
Well after barely making the cut on the number he did the unthinkable and squashed the spider before he teed off on Saturday. Will it make a difference? Maybe, who knows. Are his struggles because he’s played inconsistently all year dealing with a rib injury and getting hitched? I think so. I mean I don’t play for a week and it looks like I’ve never swung a club before so to expect Rory to compete week in and out after intermittent play is probably wishful thinking. I’ll keep pulling for Rors cause he speaks his mind and his swing is a masterpiece. Lets just hope some of those putts start falling.
